GRINDING PAST THE OLYMPIANS

The FC baseball team hosted San Diego Mesa College on Hornet Field Saturday afternoon and got past the Olympians 9-7.

On Wednesday, the CCCSIA came out with the first installment of the state rankings with the Hornets being ranked No. 21. 

The victory gives Fullerton it's 10th win on the young season with an overall record of 10-3, while the loss for San Diego Mesa keeps them winless at 0-10.

Getting off to a strong start, the Hornets rattled off 6 runs in the bottom of the first. Garet Crenshaw got it going with a nice hit that bounced through the right side scoring Isaiah MarquezNiko Santamaria got on from a fielder's choice reached allowing Crenshaw to come around from first base. Dominic Martinez popped a single to right field scoring Bryce Gamble, and Jared Benash's single to right field brought in 2 runs in Haku Dudoit and Martinez.

The Olympians answered back in the second inning with 3 runs of their own taking advantage of walks and SAC Flies.

SD Mesa made it 6-5 in the third inning adding 2 more runs on another SAC Fly and a wild pitch.

Mesa snuck in runs in the sixth and the seventh to tie the game up at 7 apiece, but Fullerton rose to the occasion in the bottom of the eighth knocking in 2 runs taking a 9-7 lead.

Angelo Aguilera came in to close out the ninth earning his 3rd save of the season. Ryan Chavez grabbed the win pitching 2 innings while allowing 2 hits and 2 walks.

1B/CF Garet Crenshaw had 3 hits on the day with 1 RBI and 2 runs. Outfielder Isaiah Marquez had 2 hits with a runs scored. Shortstop Jared Benash chipped in with 2 hits and 3 RBI.

Up Next: The No. 21 in state Hornets (10-3 overall) travel down south for another meeting with San Diego Mesa College on Tuesday, February 22ndz. The first pitch goes out at 2:00 pm.
