(Walnut, CA) Behind a balanced offensive output, host Mt. SAC (2-0) handed West Valley (0-1) a 3-0 defeat in the opening round of the 2021 Mt. SAC Nike/Azteca Tournament on Friday.

In the 22nd minute of play, Edward Castro scored the game's first goal on an assist from Alex Mendez, then Travis Piceno added another score in the 33rd minute on an assist by Gabriel Arredondo. An unassisted goal by Anthony Vargas in the 47th minute rounded out the match's scoring.

Jacob Cardenas played 90 minutes in goal for the Mounties, making four saves.

Mt. SAC will face Richland College of Texas (1-0-1) in the next round of the tournament on Sunday, Sept. 5, at 7:30 p.m.
