West LA opens Western State Conference play with loss at Glendale

GLENDALE – The 2022 Western State Conference schedule got off to a rough start for the West Los Angeles College baseball team.

The Wildcats traveled to Glendale Community College to begin a three-game WSC South Division series and came home with a 23-2 loss. Game 2 is set for Thursday (Mar. 10) in Culver City with the finale on Saturday (Mar. 12) back in Glendale.

The Vaqueros (12-5, 1-0 WSC) jumped on West LA pitching early and scored 18 of its 23 runs over the first four innings.

Down 10-0, West LA posted its two runs in the top of the third. Noah Matsumoto smacked a double to drive in Danny Gill. Two batters later, Matsumoto came in to score on a wild pitch.

West LA totaled five hits in the contest, getting two each from Matsumoto (2 for 4, RBI, run) and Gill (2 for 2, run).

Henry Castillo took the loss after allowing 10 runs and 7 hits over 1+ innings.

The Wildcats dropped to 3-12 overall and 0-1 in WSC play.
