Cerritos defeats Mt. SAC Baseball in first of three-game SCC series

(Walnut, CA) Cerritos College (5-7, 1-0) scored three runs in the top of the ninth to break a 7-7 tie that resulted in a 10-7 South Coast Conference win over host Mt. San Antonio College (4-8, 0-1) on Tuesday, Feb. 21.

The Mounties held a 7-3 lead through four innings that the Falcons chipped away at before tying the game in the seventh.

Gibby Morales (3-4, 2 RBI, 2B), Travis Hobbensiefken (3-5, 2 R, 2 RBI, 3B), Elijah Pelayo (2-5, 2 R, RBI), and Logan Corthell (1-4, R, 2B) were the top Mt. SAC hitters. Damien Delgadillo (1-5, RBI), Alex Reynozo (1-3, R), and Corthell each stole a base for the Mounties.

Sam Silversmith (0-1) got the loss, throwing 1.2 innings of relief and allowing two runs (both earned). Starter Michael Flores pitched five innings, allowed four runs (all earned), and struck out eight.

The teams will square off again on Thursday, Feb. 23, at 2 p.m. in Norwalk. The concluding game of the three-game series will be in Walnut on Saturday, Feb. 25, at 12 p.m.
