Cats earn gold against Olympians

The Saddleback baseball team swept San Diego Mesa College on Tuesday in a double-header at Doug Fritz Field.  The Bobcats are now 10-2 to start the season.

Saddleback and Mesa were set to play on Tuesday and Friday of this week but moved both games to Tuesday with rain expected later in the week.  It worked out well for Saddleback, who hit three home runs over the course of six hours in sweeping the Olympians.

Saddleback dominated game one, blowing past the Olympians by a 13-5 count.  The Bobcats led 12-0 at one point before taking their foot off the gas pedal and cruising across the finish line.  Michael Davinni and Isaiah Morales hit home runs in the game as the offense cranked out seven extra-base hits on the afternoon.  Jason Hefft finished 3-for-4 while Davinni (pictured) and J.C. Allen both had three RBI in the game.  Dylan Singh started and pitched through the fifth inning in picking up his first win of the season.  Kenny Chung and Jackson Clark finished off the Olympians as Saddleback pitchers stuck out 13 batters in the win.

Game two had a very different feel as the temperature dropped 15 degrees and the bats were appreciably cooler.  Saddleback trailed for much of the game and tied the game at 3-3 in the eighth inning when Ben Castelli walked and later came home to score on a sacrifice fly from Zachary Schwartzberg.  The Bobcats then struck gold against the Olympians with two outs in the top half of the ninth inning when Cole Koniarsky homered for a 4-3 lead.  The Bobcats then tacked on another run as Morales followed with a  double and was quickly brought home on a single from Castelli.  Saddleback's pitching staff was once again solid, using a quartet of guys.  Blake Butcher picked up the win after entering in the eighth inning as the Bobcat pitching staff struck out 12 more Olympians in game two.

Saddleback is now 10-2 to start the season following the win.  The Bobcats are scheduled to host Southwestern College on Wednesday, weather permitting. The first pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
