In a showdown of two unbeaten teams, Citrus College prevailed over the College of the Desert with a 25-14 win on the road. Both teams are receiving votes on the CCCSIA Football Poll, while COD also is earning votes in the JC Athletic Bureau Football Poll.

The Owls remain perfect on the year at 3-0, while the Roadrunners fall to 2-1 with their first defeat.

Adam Urena continued his impressive play, finishing with 21-of-29 completions for 178 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. The Owls boasted 375 total offensive yards in the win.

After a scoreless first quarter, Citrus scored a touchdown three minutes into the second and another just seconds before halftime. Urena found Robert Vega for a 10-yard touchdown pass before finding his brother Austin Urena to put the Owls up 12-0 at the break after two failed two-point conversions.

COD responded with two consecutive touchdowns to take the lead briefly, 14-12, but the Owls answered back with two touchdowns in the fourth.

Four minutes into the final quarter, Urena found Jesse Carmona for a 10-yard touchdown to put the visitors back on top.

The Citrus defense came up big in the Roadrunners' next drive, stopping COD from converting on fourth down to get the ball back. Marshon Smith kicked off the Owls' drive with a huge 51-yard rush before sprinting in the final three yards for the touchdown on the next play, securing the 25-14 victory.

The Owls are back home against LA Valley next Saturday, kicking off at 6:00 p.m.
