Vikings open Delta Classic with wins over Coast Conference rivals

The West Valley volleyball team improved to 4-0 with a pair of wins Friday at the Delta College Classic in Stockton. The Vikings opened the tourney with a 25-13, 20-25, 25-16, 25-21 win over Coast Conference rival Foothill. Jaida Ward led an offense that hit .336% with 18 kills, while Hannah Moore had a big all-around match with 15 kills, six service aces and six digs. Della Trimble handed out 54 assists, and Aaryan Hashimi and Alisha Vasanji had three blocks each.

The tournament bracket paired WVC with Coast rival Cabrillo in the evening match. The Vikings took the first two sets 25-14, 25-20, but the Seahawks stormed back to take the next two 25-16, 25-22. West Valley took the fifth set 15-11 to send them into today's winner's bracket. Moore was big at the net with 19 kills, and Trimble finished with 34 assists. Hashimi recorded 10 kills and three solo blocks. Kayla Keller came up with nine digs and Vasanji connected on six kills on six attempts. The Vikings take on host San Joaquin Delta (6-0) at 1pm in a battle of early-season unbeatens.
