Santa Ana Stays Undefeated in OEC Play with 11-9 Win Over Cypress

SANTA ANA, Calif. - Santa Ana Baseball started its four game series against the Cypress Chargers (9-4,5-2) on Tuesday and managed to pull out a 11-9 win to stay undefeated in Orange Empire Conference play. The Dons (8-5, 7-0) put up 13 hits in their highest run total of the season to give the pitching staff just enough support to stay on top.

The top of the SAC lineup came up big as Micah Pietila-Wiggs, Luke Davis and Nick Lopez combined for eight runs batted in, six hits and three walks.

Marcus Johnson and Cedrick Perez added five hits and two RBI to give the Dons some balance throughout the lineup.

It was a bullpen day on the mound for the Dons, as four pitchers were handed the ball with Chase Hennessey getting the win after going three and a third innings and leaving with the lead. The righty out of Marina High gave up four earned runs and struck out four, giving him a 2-0 record with a 3.18 ERA on the year.

After a one out double in the eighth inning, the Chargers had the tying run at the plate before SAC's Dane Baker entered the game. Normally a starter, Baker seemed unphased as he struck out the next batter and got the following batter to roll out to shortstop. He struck out two more in the ninth and held Cypress scoreless to record his second save of the season.

Santa Ana will try to secure a series win as they host Cypress again on Thursday for game two. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
