Warriors Trio Carries Offense in Win over East Los Angeles

TORRANCE, Calif. --- El Camino College won its third straight match with a 3-1 (25-22, 25-17, 23-25, 25-19) South Coast Conference victory over East Los Angeles on Wednesday night at the ECC Gym Complex.

Alex Perryman (14), Leafa Juarez (13) and Makaela Wilson (12) all recorded double digits in kills to pace the offense.

Perryman attacked at a blistering .480 clip while Wilson was not far behind at a .385 kill percentage. Perryman also added five blocks (one solo) and Wilson recorded a double-double with 13 digs. Juarez tied for the team lead with three service aces.

Athina Sarreas added seven kills on 10 swings without an error to go along with four blocks (two solo) and Jayden Zabala dished out 44 assists while setting the Warriors to a .315 attack percentage, their best mark of the year.

For the Huskies, Roselia Cazares led all players with 16 kills and Alejandra Alfaro added 15 but the Huskies committed 27 attacking errors as a team. Cazares added 17 digs and Stephanie Iglesias dished out 34 assists in the loss.

In the first set, the Warriors used an 11-3 scoring run to turn a 9-9 tie into a comfortable 20-12 advantage and they never looked back. The Huskies were able to trim the deficit to three points at 23-20 but a service error and a Perryman kill secured the opening frame for the Warriors.

The second set saw the Warriors jump out to a 7-1 lead early and the Huskies could never make up the gap. The Warriors let the lead dip to five points at 16-11 but they would not allow their opponents to get any closer and took a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Huskies played their best game in the third set as they recorded 11 kills and just two errors for a .333 attack percentage. But the Warriors hung in there throughout the set as the teams were tied 23-23. But a kill from Cazares gave the Huskies a set point and then an errant attack by Juarez gave the set to ELAC and made it a 2-1 contest.

The Warriors attacked at a .474 clip in the fourth to help them take the set and the match.

The Warriors will head to Mount San Antonio on Friday night for another SCC contest. The Mounties beat Pasadena in five sets on Wednesday night and both teams will enter the match with 3-0 records in conference play.
