SHASTA TAKES SERIES OVER REDWOODS

REDDING, Calif. – The Shasta College baseball team won a three-game Golden Valley Conference series over College of the Redwoods last week. The Knights lose the first game 26-9 at home before winning both games of Saturday's doubleheader 3-2 and 13-1.

Despite giving up a season-high 26 runs in the first game on the week, the Knights' got behind starting pitchers Payton Jeffries and Jay Mendez to lead them to victory and snap a five-game losing streak.

Both Derek Ray and Mario Hernandez homered on the week

Redwoods 26, Shasta 9
The Knights committed four errors and surrendered a season-high 26 runs. Shasta went through eight pitchers in the contest with starter Max Nebel taking the loss after giving up eight runs on 10 hits in four innings. Ray was 1 for 2 with a solo home run, Jaden Gorge was 2 for 5 with an RBI and a run, Stephen Nelson was 2 for 4 with a run, Giacomo Crosetti was 2 for 4 with an RBI and two runs, Hayden Boyes was 2 for 5 with an RBI, AJ Davies doubled and scored a run and Chase Rossman had a three-run double.

Shasta 3, Redwoods 2
Jeffries allowed one earned run on four hits, struck out five and walked three across six innings to earn the win. Tysson Unciano picked up the save, allowing one run on three hits in three innings of relief. Ray was 2 for 3 with a double and a run, Gorge was 1 for 3 with two RBIs, Hernandez and Davies each scored once and Chris Jacobsen was 1 for 3 with an RBI.

Shasta 13, Redwoods 1 (7)
The Knights blew the game open with a seven-run fifth-inning. Mendez allowed one run on three hits, struck out five and walked four over six innings to pick up the win. Hernandez was 1 for 1 with a two-run homer, Jacobsen was 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles, an RBI and two runs, Davies was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and three runs, Crosetti had three RBIs and Gorge scored twice.

Shasta (4-9 GVC, 9-17) hosts No. 23 Butte Friday and plays a single game at Butte Saturday to wrap up the season series against the Roadrunners, who have won two of their three matchups this season.
