The MSJC volleyball team put forth a great effort on Saturday night, but came away just short of an opening round play-off win as they fell on the road at College of the Canyons 3-2.

The Eagles got off to a bit of a slow start as they lost the first set 16-25, but were able to bounce back in the second to even the match with a 25-22 win.  The Cougars answered by taking set three 17-25, but again the Eagles were not done as they won set number four 25-23 to send the exciting match to a deciding fifth set.  In the fifth a slow start did in the Eagles as Canyons took the set 8-15 to advance to the next round of the CCCAA Southern California Regional Tournament.

For MSJC Aleya Starnes had a big offensive day as she recorded a match best 21 kills, while Ruby Ruiz knocked down 15 of them.  Alex Sotello concluded her excellent season by dishing out 44 assists in the loss.  On defense Kayla Thompson came up with a match high 18 digs while Sotello added 12 and Ruiz had 10 to go along with a solo block and 3 block assists.

The loss concludes the Eagles season at 17-6 overall, they were the undefeated Inland Empire Athletic Conference Champions and were making their fourth play-off appearance in the last five seasons.  The conference championship was just the second in program history and was the first unbeaten title.
