Falcons snap losing skid with 7-5 win over Modesto

COALINGA --- Aviram Ramirez drove in three runs while Jordan Berger had three hits to help lead West Hills College Coalinga to a 7-5 win over visiting Modesto Junior College on Thursday.

The victory snapped a six-game losing streak by the Falcons and improved their overall record to 5-8. Modesto lost for just the second time and fell to 10-2.

Modesto got on the board first, scoring a run in the top of the third inning. The Falcons responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame, as Ramirez lined a two-run single to score Jacob Cruz and Joziah Valdez.

The Pirates tied up the game with a run in the fourth before West Hills went ahead for good thanks to a big five-run rally in the fifth.

The Falcons sent nine batters to the plate, totaled five hits, and took advantage of a pair or errors and three passed balls. Ramirez' RBI single drove in Cruz to extend West Hills' lead to 4-2.

Modesto rallied for three runs in the sixth, but would get no closer.

Seth Goodrich earned the win in relief after allowing three runs and two hits over two innings. Chris Lenocker picked up the save after allowing just one hit over the final three innings.

Berger went 3 for 4 with a run and Ramirez was 2 for 4 with 3 RBI and a run to lead West Hills at the plate.

The Falcons and Pirates will face off again on Friday (Feb. 25), closing out the two-game series in Modesto at 2 p.m.
