After spotting visiting Los Angeles Harbor College 4-0 and 6-3 leads, the Cerritos College softball team got their bats going and posted an 11-6 South Coast Conference home win on Thursday. The Falcons (26-10, 14-4) are right back in action on Friday at noon when they host Pasadena City College in another South Coast Conference game.

The Seahawks (8-31, 1-19) loaded the bases against freshman Richere Leduc (California HS), who was making her first start in the circle since February 18. With two outs, Asia Bryant hit the first offering over the fence for a grand slam and a quick 4-0 LA Harbor lead.

Cerritos started to peck away at their lead with a single run in the second inning on a base hit up the middle by Leduc. The Falcons had chances to score in multiple innings, but LA Harbor came up with several stellar defensive plays to end the inning.

It became a 4-3 game when freshman pinch-hitter Makayla Torres (Sonora HS) stepped up and drove in a pair of runs with a two-out single. The Falcons had loaded the bases with no outs, but hit into a double play, their second in three innings. But Torres was able to come through and not leave the Falcons empty handed.

LA Harbor added to their lead with a pair of runs in the fourth inning for a 6-3 lead, and the Falcons were able to push three runs across in the fifth inning to tie the game. In the stanza, freshman designated player Maddy Guillen (La Puente HS) drew a walk, with freshman outfielders Angelica Gonzalez (Sierra Vista HS) and Alyssa Capps (Downey HS) laying down bunt singles to load the bases. A fielding error allowed the first run of the inning to come home, with Leduc lining a two-run single to tie the game.

Freshman pitcher Samantha Islas (Roosevelt HS), who came on in relief of Courtney Callison (Santa Fe HS), who tossed two shutout innings after coming in for Leduc. LA Harbor had runners at first and second with no outs, and after a failed pickoff and stolen base allowed the runners to advance, Islas (19-6) retired the next three batters. She shut them down in the seventh inning to lock down the win.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Cerritos was able to score five times, thanks to a pair of LA Harbor errors. Freshman catcher Vicky Najera (El Rancho HS) led off by reaching on a fielding error and advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches. A walk to Gonzalez kept the inning alive for freshman pinch-hitter Alyssa Porras (Downey HS), making her first appearance of the season. She appeared to have grounded out for the final out, but the throw from shortstop Da'Jhay Norton pulled first baseman Rosalie Alvarado off the bag, which allowed the eventual winning run to score.

Freshman shortstop Miranda Diaz (California HS) followed with an RBI infield hit, with Leduc capping off the scoring with a three-run home run, her second of the season. Leduc finished the game with six RBI.
