Kerby Drives In 5 Runs, Including Game-Winner in 10th vs. Grossmont
First baseman Justin Kerby drove in the game-winning run in the top of the 10th to give the Knights a much-needed 8-7 road win at Grossmont. Kerby went 4-for-6 on the day with a home run, a double, and five RBI to help the Knights snap a 5-game losing streak.

The Knights struck first in the 3rd inning with five runs off two hits to take the early lead. Nickolas Kalafut scored the first run after coming home on a throwing error. C.J. Brown then scored on a wild pitch, and Kerby capped off the inning with a 3-run homer, his team-leading eighth of the season, to right center field to put City ahead, 5-0.
Grossmont got on the board in the bottom of the 4th when Luke Denos' 2-run home run cut City's lead to 5-2, and after three scoreless innings, the Knights took a 6-2 lead in the top of the 7th on a Vito Fowler RBI single.
The Griffins responded with a run during their turn in the 7th, but Kerby hit back with an RBI double in the 8th to give the Knights a 7-3 lead. Grossmont, however, scored twice in the bottom of the 8th and then tied the game in the 9th on Zavien Watson's 2-run home run.
In the top of the 10th, Joshua Loving came in to pinch-run for Cruz Mujica after being walked. Brown came up next and laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Loving to second base. Julian Nunez flied out to center field, but it was deep enough to allow Loving to get to third base. Then, after Connor Stewart was walked, Kerby came through once again with a single that scored Loving and put the Knights on top for good.
Jacob Hennessey pitched the final three innings for City and earned his first win of the season after getting Grossmont batters to ground out, strike out, and ground out in the bottom of the 10th.
Knights' starting pitcher Anthony Gniady went five innnings and struck out three while allowing only two earned runs.
San Diego City will begin a 3-game series with Southwestern at Morley Field on Tuesday, April 19. School president Dr. Ricky Shabazz will be throwing out the ceremonial first pitch a few minutes before the start of Tuesday's game, which is scheduled for 2 p.m.
