Falcons drop series opener at Delta, 8-4

The much-anticipated showdown series between the top two teams in the Big 8 Conference - Delta and Folsom Lake - opened on Tuesday afternoon with Delta winning 8-4 in Stockton.  The Mustangs broke open a tie game with a 4-run sixth inning, then allowed the falcons just one more run over the final three innings.  Carter Delaney started for the Falcons and had allowed just one run through four innings but ran into trouble in the fifth when the Mustangs tied the score.  Usually reliable reliever Ryan Ward had a disasterous sixth inning after entering with a runner on first, allowing two walks and a double that brought home three runs for Delta.

The Falcon offense, while still getting nine hits, had only one extra-base and left 12 runners stranded on base.  JT Waldon and Drake Digiorno each had two hits and an RBI to lead the Falcons.

Game two will be at Folsom Lake on Thursday at 2:30 pm.
