VENTURA – The SBCC softball team fell in five innings in both of its games on day one of the Ventura Spring Games, 18-3 to Bakersfield and 12-3 to Antelope Valley.

SBCC vs. BAKERSFIELD
The Vaqueros were held to three hits in their first game of the day against Bakersfield. The Renegades went for 17 hits, scoring eight runs in the first inning.

SBCC had a successful third inning, outscoring Bakersfield 3-0, but gave up five runs in the second and fourth. Catcher Naveah Freitas, second baseman Lauren Indermuehle and center fielder Natalie Depasquale all scored runs in the third inning.

Depasquale led the way with two hits, an RBI and a run. Shortstop Linnéa Sandhal had SBCC's other hit.

Indermuehle had two walks while Freitas and left fielder Mellanie Barth had one each.

SBCC vs. ANTELOPE VALLEY
It was a much different start to the game for the Vaqueros against Antelope Valley, as they opened with a 3-0 lead.

Freitas led off with a single to begin the game and eventually made it to third on a wild pitch. Depasquale then hit an RBI single to open the scoring.

Depasquale made her way to third with a stolen base and a wild pitch. Jade Leoffler walked and stole second. Then, Sandhal hit a two-run double to put the Vaqueros up by three runs.

AVC scored two runs in the bottom of the first to pull within one. They took the lead with a two-run homer in the third and blew the game open with a huge fourth inning, scoring eight runs on six hits.

Unfortunately for the Vaqueros, their big first proved to be their only inning where they put runs on the board.
