Carson Dunckley held L.A. Mission to one earned run on five hits in eight innings on Tuesday but the Eagles managed to get an unearned run in the eighth to beat SBCC 3-2 in a non-conference game at Pershing Park.

It was the first win of the year for Mission (1-4) and the fifth straight loss for the Vaqueros (0-5).

Gyselle Soto opened the eighth with a double to left, went to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored the game-winner when third baseman Lauren Del Campo couldn't handle a grounder by pinch-hitter Khariana Suniga.

Dunckley, a sophomore right-hander from Colorado Springs, had her best outing of the year, pitching all eight innings and allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits with four strikeouts and three walks.

"Carson pitched very well today," said SBCC coach Justine Bosio. "She was locating her spots well because when they were hitting her pitches, it was ground balls and fly balls right to our fielders. She definitely pitched well enough to win."

The Vaqueros had 12 baserunners (9 hits, 3 walks) but couldn't get the timely hits and stranded 11 on the bases.

Paige Powell, Taylor Tibbels and Madison Foster led the offense with two hits each.

The Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the second. Linda Cisneros reached on an infield single, advanced to third on a throwing error by Dunckley and scored on Sara Corralejo's single. Corralejo went to second and third on hit-by-pitches and scored on a bases-loaded walk to Jessica Amaya.

The Vaqueros got on the board in the third when Sinai Miranda and Tibbels hit back-to-back singles. Unfortunately, Tibbels' grounder past the first baseman hit Miranda in the leg and she was called out. Powell singled to right and Tibbels went to third, then scored on an errant throw by the right fielder.

SBCC tied it 2-2 in the fifth on a walk to Tibbels, singles by Powell and Skylar Gothan and an error by the shortstop Soto that brought home Tibbels.

"There's a couple of things we need to clean up communication-wise on defense," said Bosio. "The positive is that we're getting people on. Now, maybe we just need to put some people in the right spots in the lineup or be more disciplined at the plate."

The Vaqueros will host Santiago Canyon on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.
