BC Claims Lead in Fifth Inning to Defeat Glendale

BAKERSFIELD, CA- The Bakersfield College softball team came away with a 6-4 win on Thursday against the visiting Glendale City College Vaqueros. 

The game was tied at three after four innings until sophomore Shelbie Valencia hit a three-run home run in the 5th inning to give BC the lead. The sophomore infielder led the way going 4-for-4 at the plate with a single in the first, second, and fourth innings, then secured her 5th home run of the season to wrap up a solid night. Pitcher Kadyn Smith also had a big day knocking her 6th home run of the season. 

Ryleigh Harrison started the game and went four and a half innings, then reentered in the 7th inning to finish the game. Harrison allowed one run on five hits and struck out four on the night. As a team, the Renegades collected 14 hits. Valencia, Camille Chavez, Smith, and Alyna Ruiz all had multiple hits in the game against the Vaqueros. 

With the win, BC moved to 14-8 overall and 6-1 in the conference. The team will play three road games before returning home on Thursday, April 6, to take on LA Mission for a doubleheader with the first game starting at noon.
