Mesa holds off Palomar for PCAC title

The San Diego Mesa College men's water polo team successfully defended its regular season title with a Pacific Coast Athletic Conference championship on Saturday at Southwestern College.  The Olympians will now head to the CCCAA Southern California Regional Finals this week.

Mesa finished the regular season 16-8 overall and 5-0 in PCAC play.  The Olympians then went 2-0 over the weekend at the PCAC Championships, qualifying for the next stage of play starting Thursday.

Mesa jumped out to an 8-1 lead over Palomar in the finals, but then received a big push from the Comets.  The Olympians ended up holding on for an 11-8 win, thanks in large part to a 19-save performance in goal from Trey Pietsch.

Mesa's Roman Rosser scored four goals in the win and leads the Olympians into the regional tournament with a team-high 74 goals for the season.  He was helped out by Brendan McMahon, who had a game-high five assists.

Mesa will play in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Regional Tournament at Riverside City College starting Thursday.
