Chargers Fall in Season Opener, 15-5

Cypress, CA - The Cypress Chargers (0-1) opened up their 2022 campaign on Friday afternoon when they hosted the Pasadena City Lancers (2-0). Cypress struggled to get the Lancers out at the plate as they were defeated, 15-5, in their first game of the season.

Mario Tostado (2-for-4) led the Chargers on offense knocking in all four RBI's on the day for Cypress. Brendan Harris (1-for-3, BB) got on base twice for the Chargers while also scoring one run. Andrew Kotin (2.0 IP, 2K) got the start on the mound, lasting two innings and giving up three runs. Unfortunately, the Chargers next three pitchers (Weston Millis, Sebastian Diaz, and Christian Casillas) followed suit as they each registered three earned runs. Jonathan Largaespada and Ryan Brown appeared in relief, both retiring the three batters they faced.

Pasadena City posted the first two runs of the game in the first inning and added another in the second. The Chargers answered in the third inning with their first run of the season to make the score 3-1. The Lancers did their damage in the fifth inning scoring nine runs on three hits, three walks, an error and a hit batter to blow the game open, 12-3. Mario Tostado doubled with the bases loaded in the seventh inning knocking in three runs, as he was the lone bright spot for the Chargers on the day. Pasadena would score in two more runs in the ninth inning as they ran away with a 15-5 victory.

UP NEXT: Cypress will be back on the diamond Tuesday, February 1st, as they play host to Moorpark College. First pitch is scheduled for 2pm.
