Volleyball: Eagles Win in Three, Move to 2-0 in IEAC

The MSJC volleyball team improved to 2-0 in Inland Empire Athletic Conference play on Friday with a 3-0 sweep at home over visiting Cerro Coso.

The Eagles won an exciting opening set by a score of 25-23, then went on to win the second 25-20, and the third 25-13.

Ruby Ruiz had a team high 11 kills in the match while Chanelle Ongchangco was right behind her with 10.  Luci Villafana had 8 kills on the night and Aleya Starnes added 7.  Alex Sotello continued to lead the way with assists for the Eagles as she passed out 32 in the victory.  Defensively MSJC was led by 15 digs a piece by Ruiz and Kayla ThompsonGrace Tapia was strong at the net with 2 solo blocks and 3 block assists on the evening, Starnes added a solo block and 1 block assist.

The win improved the Eagles overall season record to 9-4, they are 2-0 in IEAC play.  This week is a busy one for MSJC as they open the week on Monday night with a home match against College of the Desert.  The Roadrunners come to town with a 2-0 conference mark, they are 5-7 overall.  Wednesday MSJC will travel to San Bernardino Valley before returning home on Friday night for a match with Chaffey.  All matches this week are set to begin at 5 pm.
