BC Ends an 8-year Losing Streak to COC

SANTA CLARITA, CA – On a night when the Bakersfield College football team knew they had their work cut out from them, the Renegades not only won their second straight road contest but ended an eight-game losing streak to College of the Canyons and spoiled the Cougars homecoming game with a ten-point victory on a rare Thursday night football game, 17-7.

BC, who trailed 7-0 two plays after COC blocked freshman Tristin Skinner's 41-yard field goal attempt in the opening quarter, tied the game on their final possession of the first half. With only 44 seconds remaining and the ball on their own 22-yard line, Bakersfield drove to the Cougars 1-yard line and were able to score with eight seconds remaining. Joseph Campbell's quarterback sneak and Skinner's extra point knotted the score at 7.

Into the 3rd quarter, the Renegades had a drive stalled inside the red zone and settled for Skinner's 28-yard field goal giving BC a 10-7 lead.

Both teams exchanged punts until Campbell hooked up with wide receiver Jihad Marks for a 71-yard touchdown completion for the final points of the game. The Gades defense were able to hold the Cougars for the remaining seven minutes of the game.

On defense side, Jacob Hughes, Jensen Hallum, Logan Bowers, Jakob Jones, Rashaad Nelson, and Dylan Parcher were credited with sacks.

With the win, the Gades are now 3-3 on the season and will return to Memorial Stadium for Homecoming Saturday October 22nd against Ventura College Pirates at 6pm with a firework show after the game.
