Baseball Claims 19th Conference Title with Win Over Oxnard, 13-3

Baseball enters the final day of the regular season with a one-game lead in the Western State Conference standings but have clinched their first WSC title since 2016.  Today, the Cuesta Nine crushed Oxnard, 13-3, with a refreshing return from the offense, which had boasted only six runs the previous three games.  The Cougars maintained their one-game advantage over 2nd place Santa Barbara in the WSC table but end the season on the road against the Vaqueros in Pershing Park tomorrow (1 PM).  Today's win clinched the program's 19th conference title since the program's founding in 1966 and tied Coach Bob Miller with former Coach Larry Lee for the overall lead with nine conference titles each.  Of the seven different coaches to lead the Cougars over the past 56 seasons only Miller, Lee, and Dan Marple, in 1982, have led the Cougars to a conference title. Cuesta is 24-15 overall and 17-5 against the WSC.

The Cougars were impressive and put on a show in their final regular season home game against the visiting Condors.  Freshman Southpaw Justin Vose led the way by hurling five-innings without allowing an earned run, before handing a seven-run lead to the bullpen.  Relievers Charlie Williams, Will Crookham and Elias Bullard combined to author four more scoreless innings to close out the win over Oxnard.  On offense, Catcher Dalton Cram, Outfielder Mattias Sessing and Designated Hitter Kirk Woolf each enjoyed a three-hit day.  Cram boasted two Doubles among his three safeties and drove in a game-high five RBI, including Sessing after all three of his singles. Woolf boasted a pair of Triples among his three hits and scored twice, while also adding an RBI.  Playoff seeds shall be released next week.
