SMC Women's Tennis won the final match of the season at home with a win over 2nd place Los Angeles Mission College (LAMC) 6-3. The Corsairs were edged out 5-4 in their first meeting at LAMC on February 22nd but today would prove to be a different story.
Nicole West and Kai Nikchevich got the first point at no. 1 doubles with an 8-5 win. The Corsairs no. 3 doubles team fell to LAMC 8-0 to tie the score at 1-1. Veronica Gerlach and Juyan Pollack won at no. 2 doubles to put SMC ahead 2-1.
Veronica Gerlach (no. 3 singles) recorded the 3rd Corsair point after her opponent defaulted. Nikchevich then won at no. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-1 to score the Corsairs 4th point and West (no. 1 singles) sealed the victory with a solid 6-3, 6-3 win.
West finished the regular season as the top player in the WSC with an undefeated record at no. 1 singles. West is also undefeated in doubles with partner Kai Nikchevich. Nikchevich is undefeated at no. 2 singles.
With the match already decided, Juyan Pollack added the icing to the cake with a 6-4, 1-6 (10-8) win on Court 5.
Coach Jay Molsing summed up the day, "It was very satisfying to see all the hard work put in by the team pay off with a win in the last match of the season against a quality opponent."
The Corsairs finished the regular season with a 6-6 record. However, four of their losses this season were 5-4 defeats. "Lady Luck wasn't always on our side in some of those close matches but I was happy to see the team kept fighting and rose above it all to grow as tennis players and teammates," said Coach Richard Goldenson

West and Nikchevich finished the regular season undefeated at both at no. 1 doubles and at their respective no. 1 and no. 2 singles positions.
West and Nikchevich raised their record at no. 1 doubles to 11-0.
West is 11-0 at No. 1 singles.
Nikchevich is 11-0 at No. 2 singles.
