GRIFFINS BACK ON THE WINNING WAYS

GRIFFINS BACK ON THE WINNING WAYS

EL CAJON — Grossmont bounced back from last week's loss, with a good win over Orange Coast College 31-26 in front of 65 boisterous fans at Mashin-Roth Memorial Stadium on campus.

Keiyon Holloway had a wonderful day. Rushing for 168 yards on 20 carries and had a catch for another three yards. In his 171 all-purpose yards he ended in the endzone twice, including a 76-yard run up the left sideline in the third quarter to give the Griffins (2-1) a lead they would never relinquish.

"I'm proud of my guys," Head Coach Mike Jordan said after the victory. "We came out the second half putting the fire to them. Wins are not very easy. We always learn something, winning or losing. You've got to finish a game and play a little cleaner. All of these teams we play are pretty good. You can't come out here not be prepared and not to make plays and expect an overwhelming victory."

In the air, Elia Kirisimasi threw for over 200 yards and a pair of touchdowns to go with his two interceptions. Ten different receivers caught passes on Saturday. Dillon Gebase grabbed two passes for a team-high 71 yards with a 69-yard pass and catch that preceded Holloway's run.

On the day, the Griffins out-gained the Orange Coast Pirates (0-3) 373 to 308 on only four more plays. Defensively, Grossmont had nine tackles for loss and four sacks, an interception and ten pass breakups.

The Griffins will take their winning record on the road next week as they travel to Simi Valley to take on Moorpark College. The Raiders traveled to Hemet to take on Mt. San Jacinto and lost 60-30 to the Eagles. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Griffin Stadium.
