Women's Volleyball: Roadrunners dominant in sweep at Compton

The Rio Hondo College women's volleyball team snapped a four-match losing streak thanks to a 3-0 (25-6, 25-3, 25-11) South Coast Conference win at Compton College on Wednesday. Rio Hondo improved to 6-10 overall and 4-5 in conference play.

The Roadrunners allowed just 20 points for the match and nearly shutout Compton in a 25-3 victory in Set 2.

Head coach Teddi Esko was able to empty the bench and got contributions from the entire roster. Rio Hondo hit an impressive .578 for the match, committing just one error on 45 attempts. The Roadrunners also scored a bulk of their points thanks to a season-high 26 aces.

11 different players had kills in the match. Ariadna Martinez led Rio Hondo on the night with 7 kills and 9 digs. Ariel Garcia and Haedee Estrella both had 5 aces each while Faith Wada had a match-best 8 assists.

Rio Hondo returns to action on Friday (Oct. 15) when the Roadrunners host Cerritos College in a 6 p.m. South Coast Conference match.
