All-around effort in volleyball team's win at Santiago Canyon

Irvine Valley's women's volleyball team recorded another Orange Empire Conference sweep on Friday night at Santiago Canyon.

The Lasers, ranked No. 12 in the state, improved their record to 11-4 overall and 7-1 in conference with a 25-3, 25-19, 25-16, win over the Hawks.

The win kept Irvine Valley in first place in the OEC standings. The Lasers remained a match ahead of both Orange Coast and Santa Ana.

The sweep was IVC's eighth of the season and fifth in conference.

Irvine Valley hit .300 as a team and received contributions from all over.

Freshman outside hitter Tessa Marocco had 10 kills, added six digs and hit .318.

Sophomore opposite Jayli Nealy had seven kills and two blocks, sophomore opposite Chloe Swanson finished with seven kills and four digs, and sophomore outside hitter Angelina Griego ended with five kills and seven digs.

Freshman setter Mia Bertolone put up 14 assists and seven digs, sophomore setter Maddie Harkey had nine assists and three digs and freshman defensive specialist Hannah Ledesma chipped in seven digs.

The Lasers play again next Wednesday at home against Riverside at 6 p.m. The match starts the second round of conference action.
