Softball Rolls Past Bakersfield in 8-4 Victory

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College softball team remains unbeaten on the season after pulling off an 8-4 victory over Bakersfield College at home on Tuesday afternoon. The victory snaps a six-game losing streak against the Renegades for the home squad, who last beat the BC crew in March 2018.  | BOX SCORE

Hancock (3-0) rattled off an early four-run inning to open the contest, which was sparked by an RBI single from Mya Mendoza. Briana Munoz followed by sending two runners home after a deep double before Danica Black used a single to drive in the final run of the frenzy. Bakersfield (2-4) managed to squeak one runner through in the second inning, but Lisette Coria extended the deficit back to four with a double that scored one in the fourth.

Both teams were scoreless through the fifth inning, but bats got hot for Mendoza and Munoz in the bottom of the sixth after the duo combined for three runs. Mendoza plated one with a deep triple to right before Munoz cleared the bases after launching a shot over the left-center fence. The visiting Renegades responded with a three-run homer of their own, but were unable to close the gap before Hancock recorded the final out of the game.

Munoz led the Bulldogs at the plate and in the circle with a stellar two-way performance. The sophomore standout registered four RBIs on the day after going 2-for-3 at the plate and touched home plate twice. She also scattered five hits en route to her second win of the season on the rubber after tossing a complete seven.

The Bulldogs are set to return to action with a weekend road trip to face Chaffey College on Friday afternoon before visiting Riverside City College on Saturday.
