Bobcats win at Golden West

The Saddleback softball team picked up a win with a 5-2 victory at Golden West College on Wednesday in Huntington Beach.  The Bobcats scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning in getting past the Rustlers.

Saddleback and Golden West went to the seventh inning scoreless as neither team could push across a run through the first six innings of play.  The Bobcats finally broke the ice in the seventh when they sent nine batters to the plate and scored all of their runs with two outs in the inning.

The first two batters of the seventh inning were retired when Anne Thibert stepped to the plate and delivered a single to left-center field in putting the potential go-ahead run on base.  It ended up being the first of six straight hits as the Bobcats found their stroke at just the right time.  Ehva Cifuentes-Zombulovic followed with a single before Katie Schmidt singled home Thibert with the first run of the game.  Emma Estep followed with a single to score Cifuentes-Zombulovic and then Desiree McGruder singled to right field to score Schmidt for the third run of the game.  Isabel Siqueiros then put the game on ice when she tripled to right-center field, scoring both Estep and McGruder.

Thibert (pictured) finished 3-for-4 on the afternoon while Siqeuros was 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Schmidt started and pitched a complete game on the mound in improving to 6-9 on the season.  She struck out three Rustlers on the day while spreading around seven hits.  Golden West finally broke through for two unearned runs in the bottom half of the seventh inning.

Saddleback is now 6-10 overall and 2-4 in Orange Empire Conference play following the win.  The Bobcats will play next at Fullerton College on Friday at 2:00 PM.
