Baseball Passes Road Test with Victory at SBCC

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College baseball team secured a 9-6 conference victory on the road against Santa Barbara City College on Tuesday afternoon. | BOX SCORE

Both teams were scoreless through the first four frames before the Bulldogs (20-18, 10-12 WSC) managed to rattle off a four-run string in the fifth. Joey Freitas sparked the rally with a single to center that plated two after a throwing error. Parker Haskell and Luke Wenzel each added a pair of RBI singles to close the frame, but Santa Barbara (21-13, 14-7 WSC) quickly cut the deficit with three runs of their own in the bottom of the frame. Jacob Ruley came through in the next inning with his first homer of the season after sending a two-run shot over the left fence after Dylan Howell scored on a balk, but the Vaqueros responded once more with a three-run string in the seventh. Hancock close the scoring for both sides with a pair of runs in the final frame after a sacrifice fly from Haskell scored one and Evan Steinberger's single drove in another.

Lucas Earle collected his third win of the season after a brief appearance on the bump where he struck out two batters and walked one through 0.2 innings. Luke Kovach tossed the final four innings and collected his sixth save of the season after sitting down four and surrendering two earned runs on three hits. Matthew Gonzales earned the start on the mound but did not factor into the final decision. He struck out five and was charged with two earned runs after allowing five hits through 4.1 innings.

The Bulldogs are set to return to action on Thursday, April 28th, with a road trip to Ventura College.
