(Cypress, CA) Twice as nice was the theme of the day for the Mt. SAC Softball team, as they swept Cypress College, 7-2 and 5-3, on Saturday (March 26) in a non-conference doubleheader.

Both games went into extras, with the Mounties taking the lead for good in the eighth inning of each game.

A tight game in the opener saw the Mounties break a 2-2 tie and explode for five runs in the eighth inning to win, 7-2.

The second game saw more of the same, with the score tied at 2-2, the Mounties sent three runs across in the eighth inning again to lead, 5-2. Cypress tried to rally in the bottom of the inning but could only score once.

Mt. SAC, ranked first in the state, improved to 23-3.

Leading the way for the Mounties in the two games was freshman first baseman Brianna Goris, as she went five for seven, five RBIs and three doubles.

Catcher Celeste Cortez added a home run and Rylee Mirano had a triple.

As a team, the Mounties pounded out 22 hits, including eight extra-base hits in the two games.

Highlighting the five-run eighth in the opening game, was a two-run double by catcher Annemarie Gutierrez, scoring Olivia Ortiz and Desiree Bravo.

That was followed by a two-run single to left by Goris, scoring Gutierrez and Isabela Gurule.

In game two, Gurule and centerfielder Emily Barba had run-scoring singles, which was followed by a sacrifice fly to centerfield by Bravo for the 5-2 lead.

The Mounties will try for their seventh consecutive win with a South Coast Conference game at Pasadena City College this Tuesday (March 29).
