Arno 90th-minute goal lifts Las Positas to 2-1 win at Diablo Valley

With time winding down at Diablo Valley College and the first blemish on the Las Positas College women's soccer team's record seeming likely, sophomore Ashley Arno broke free in the 90th minute of Friday's contest to score the game-winning goal and give the Hawks an amazing 2-1 victory against the Vikings.

Las Positas, ranked No. 2 in the state, remains perfect at 5-0. The Hawks allowed their first goal of the season but have outscored their opponents by an impressive 26-1 margin.

LPC trailed in a game for the first time this season after Diablo Valley's Lily Reddell scored early in the fourth minute. Freshman Tiffani Cheng responded with her team-leading fifth goal of the year, getting the equalizer for the Hawks in the 30th minute off the assist from Alyssa Sullivan.

The two teams battled in the second half with neither able to capitalize until Arno beat DVC goalkeeper Josie Gonsalves for her fourth goal of the year to secure the Las Positas win.

Dariana Mihalache posted five saves in goal for the Hawks, just one off her season high.

The Hawks will look to make it six consecutive wins to open the season on Tuesday (Sep. 14) when they host College of Marin at 1:30 p.m.
