Falcon women shut out West Hills to remain undefeated

The Folsom Lake women's soccer team escaped the heat and smoke on Monday to play a make-up of Friday's postponed match at West Hills-Lemoore and came home with a satisfying 3-0 win.  The Falcons set the tone early with a goal by freshman Tiayiza Arredondo in the 3rd minute, assisted by Avery Pieri.  Freshman forward Klaire Horton came off the bench to make it 2-0 in the 41st minute with an assist by Laila Hadid.  The Falcons added to their lead in the second half with a goal by freshman Alexia Chavez, also assisted by Laila Hadid.  With several shots on goal that hit the posts or crossbar and some near-misses by Kika Diaz, the Falcons could have easily turned the match into a blowout.  Head coach Donny Ribaudo was able to play all 22 players who suited up, especially important with another match to play just 24 hours later (vs Merced on Tuesday).

"We did a good job of controlling the match and limiting their possessions," noted Ribaudo. He also made note of two players - Mia Ramos and Teyha Guiden - who saw their first game-action of 2022 after suffering injuries in the preseason.  Freshman goalkeeper Reese Clark made her first start of the season a memorable one with a shutout victory.

The Falcons improved to 3-0-1 to start the season and hope to build on that as they return to the home pitch to host Merced (0-2) on Tuesday at 3:00 pm.
