OXNARD, Calif. – After struggling to find their offensive rhythm in recent games, the Oxnard College baseball team delivered a commanding performance on Tuesday, securing a 10-4 victory over Rio Hondo at home. The Condors' bats came alive, racking up 17 hits and putting an end to their scoring struggles in emphatic fashion.
Oxnard wasted no time setting the tone, plating an early run in the first inning thanks to a clutch RBI single by Braydon Ferguson (https://www.instagram.com/p/DHXF4HTSIOt/). The offense continued to heat up in the third, as Jonas Ballesteros, Jorge Rodarte, and Robert Perez each drove in runs to extend the lead to 4-0.
Despite Rio Hondo pushing across runs in the fourth and fifth innings to cut the deficit to 4-2, the Condors responded with a relentless attack. Joe Ortiz's RBI single in the fifth, followed by a three-run seventh inning highlighted by a hit-by-pitch RBI and a sacrifice fly from Reon Iwase, widened the gap to 8-2.
Cristian Flores sealed the victory in the eighth with a two-run double, cementing Oxnard's dominance at the plate. On the mound, starting pitcher Austin Watkins, delivered a strong performance, tossing four innings while allowing just one earned run and striking out three. Brendan McBride followed with four shutout innings before Roman Munoz closed the door in the ninth.
"Our guys really stepped up today," said Oxnard assistant coach Tony McMillin. "We've been working hard to break through offensively, and today we executed. This was a much-needed confidence boost for the team."
Ferguson led the way with a stellar 4-for-4 performance, scoring four runs, while Ortiz also shined with a 4-for-5 effort at the plate. Flores contributed three RBIs in the win. OC looks to carry this momentum forward. The Condors will return to action later this week as they take on the Roadrunners on Thursday.
