Both Citrus College and the College of the Canyons had big innings, but the Cougars pulled out a 14-8 win to even the series Thursday.

The Owls move to 16-20 on the year, 9-8 in Western State Conference action, while the Cougars improve to 16-18 overall and 9-8 in conference.

Canyons broke through with a big second inning, plating seven runs off six hits. The home team added another in the third as well, increasing its lead to 8-0.

The Owls had a big inning of their own in the top of the fifth. Josh Logan led off with a walk and Jared Gener drilled a pitch over the fence to put Citrus on the board. Devon Diaz followed with a free trip to first and made his way to third on a Robert Valdivia base hit. Chad Green then sent him home on a single, 8-3.

With bases loaded and one out, Roman Robles walked in another run before Nicholas Santiago knocked an RBI single. In his second time at the plate, Gener doubled to send in two more run before the Cougars got out of the inning, 8-7.

Canyons answered back with a run in the bottom half of the inning and four in the sixth to increase its lead to 13-7.

A Jin Hattori RBI single sent Robles home in the top of the seventh, but it was all the Owls would be allowed as the Cougars put the game out of reach with another run in the eighth, 14-8.

Citrus and Canyons close out the series on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Glendora.
