COD Softball wins 4th straight, defeats Wolverines, 12-6

COD (15-5; 3-0) grabbed their 4th consecutive win, 6th out of 7 games, using big innings in the 1st and 6th innings to rout the San Bernardino Valley Wolverines (3-15; 0-3), 12-6.

The Roadrunners played against San Bernardino Valley for the first time in program history in 1981, back when they were known as the Indians, and hold a 44-33 overall record against the Wolverines. Desert has a 24-15 record against the Wolverines in Palm Desert.

The game against the Wolverines begins a 6-game home stand, that stretches over 4 dates between March 12 to March 21.

Sophomore designated player Arissa Gonzalez (Thermal Coachella Valley) had her 6th multi-hit game of the season, her 3rd with 3 hits or more, going 3 for 4 out of the and scoring a career high 4 runs. Sophomore right fielder Rebecca Perez (Palm Springs H.S.) also had her 6th multi-hit game of the season, going 2 for 3, and currently holds a three-game streak of scoring 3 runs per game. Freshman center fielder Alyssa Martinez Sanchez (La Quinta H.S.) also had her 6th multi-hit game of the season, going 2 for 4 with a run scored and had her 3rd game of the season with 4 runs batted in or more. Sophomore right-handed starting pitcher Victoria Talamantes (La Quinta H.S.) grabbed her 5th win in the circle, while collecting a season high 7 strike outs. Sophomore second baseman Kimberly Rodriguez (Indio H.S.) grabbed her second straight multi-hit game of the season, going 2 for 3 with a run scored. Freshman first baseman Tatiana Salinas (Rancho Mirage H.S.) had her 3rd multi-hit game of the season, going 2 for 3 and tying a season high with 3 RBIs, all while hitting out of the 8-hole in the lineup.

The next match-up for the Roadrunners will be hosting the "COD Tri" on Saturday, March 15. Desert will open with the Imperial Valley Desert Warriors at 11a and wrap up with the Glendale Vaqueros at 3p. In between, Imperial Valley and Glendale will face-off. The Roadrunners played against Imperial Valley for the first time in program history in 1985, back when they were knows as the Arabs, and hold a 37-15 overall record against the Desert Warriors. Desert has a 14-6 record against the Desert Warriors in Palm Desert. Earlier this season, Desert swept a home-at-home series over Imperial Valley, winning in Palm Desert on February 7, 5-3 and winning at Imperial on February 12, 18-9. The Roadrunners played against Glendale for the first time in program history in 1991 and hold a 13-7 overall record against the Vaqueros. Desert has a 4-4 record against the Vaqueros in Palm Desert. Earlier this season, Desert swept a double header at Glendale, winning on March 1, 7-3 and 13-0 in 6 innings.
