Mounties win fifth straight in extra-inning victory over Irvine Valley

(Irvine, CA) Host Irvine Valley (11-13-2) let a five-run lead slip away as Mt. SAC (14-12) rallied and eventually came away with a 10-9 victory on Thursday, May 27.

Down 7-2 through five, the Mounties scored five in the top of the sixth to tie the score at seven, then tacked on two more in the seventh to take a 9-7 lead. The Lasers responded with two in the bottom of the ninth to send the game into an extra inning. Jacob Moreno (1-2, R, RBI) scored what proved to be the winning run in the top of the tenth on a double to right by Cole Jordan (2-4, RBI).

Among the top offensive players for Mt. SAC were Cristian Enriquez (3-4, 2B, 3 R), Sebastian Garcia (2-5, R), Nick Lugo (2-5, 2B, 2 R, RBI), and Manny Casillas (2-6, 2B, RBI). Caleb Ellis, Micahel Rosales, and Fabian Moran each stole a base for the Mounties.

Kagan Wentz (1-0) got the win for Mt. SAC, throwing 0.1 inning in relief of starter Michael Ortega (4.1 IP, 7 R, 4 ER, 8 SO). Ryan Silvers picked up the save, his first of the season.

The teams will face off again in a doubleheader on Friday, May 28, at Mt. SAC. Game times are scheduled for 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. The games will wrap up the season for the Mounties.
