COD Baseball scores 5 in the 9th to knock off the Monarchs, 12-8

COD (3-11) found themselves down a run in the ninth, 8-7 and then scored five runs in the top of the ninth to bust up an eight game losing streak, as the Roadrunners traveled to the LA Valley Monarchs (7-6) and won, 12-8.

The Monarchs would get onto the board first, scoring a pair of runs in the first. Desert would respond with a run in the third on a home run by sophomore second baseman Christopher Burke (Temecula Valley), making the score 2-1. LA Valley would score a run in the bottom half of that inning, making the score 3-1.

In the top of the fourth, Desert would score three more times to take a 4-3 lead, bolstered by a two run home run by freshman shortstop Spencer Dickinson (Rancho Mirage H.S.). The Monarchs would regain the lead in the bottom of the fourth, scoring two times, making the score 5-4, then the home side would take an 8-4 lead in the bottom of the fifth.

In the top of the seventh, the Roadrunners would plate three runs on a double-triple-double, making the score 8-7, as sophomore third baseman Mario Ramirez (Rancho Mirage H.S.) hit a double to left, sophomore designated hitter Phillip Dimas (Tanque Verde, AZ) hit a triple to right and sophomore left fielder Bryce Osman (Anna-Jonesboro, IL) doubled to right to get Desert within striking distance.

In the top of the ninth, the wheels came off for the LA Valley relief core, as the Roadrunners scored five runs in the inning.

As impressive as the offensive attack for Desert in this contest was the pitching for the Roadrunners, as sophomore right handed starting pitcher Brian Glenn (Palm Desert H.S.) tossed four complete surrendering seven runs, five earned, on nine hits, walking one and striking out one. Then freshman right handed relief pitcher Taishin Matsushita (Kofu (JPN) Kofu Senior H.S.) came in a wrapped up the game, grabbing his first win of the season, as he pitched five complete, shutting down the Monarchs lineup and only giving up an unearned run on three hits, striking out two.
