Hawks Take Down Dons
The Santiago Canyon College Softball Team defeated Santa Ana College 4-1 to even the score in the series. The Hawks now improve to 23-7 on the year. Stella Turner recorded the complete game win, holding the Dons to 1 unearned run on 3 hits through 7 innings of work. Turner has the 2nd most wins in the state.
Santiago Canyon struck early with 3 runs in the first inning. Alyssa Yslas led off with a single to left field. She advanced to second on a bunt from Riley Piattoni and then scored on a double by Samantha Villanueva. Liliana Navarro followed with another double off the left field wall that scored Villanueva. Navarro advanced to third on a ground ball from Jazmyn Moetului that allowed her to score on a single from Jade Costa.
After an early Don's pitching change, the Hawks remained scoreless until the 6th inning. Lindsey Marschall was able to come around to score after reaching on a single and moving to second on a base hit from Yslas. Riley Piattoni drove a ball down the left field line scoring Marschall for the 4th and final run for the Hawks.
The Dons lone run came in the 7th inning with 2 outs, on a Hawks error and an RBI single but wouldn't be enough as SCC was able to close it out securing the 4-1 victory.
The Hawks offense was led by Riley Piattoni (2-for-3), Liliana Navarro (2-for-3, double, RBI), Jade Costa (2-for-3, RBI), Lindsey Marschall (2-for-3, double), and Alyssa Yslas (2-for-4).
SCC returns to action on Wednesday at home against Golden West College.
