COD Baseball routs the Rams, 28-10

COD (10-8; 3-1) rebounded from a Conference loss earlier in the week in a big way, bringing 17 Roadrunners to the plate in the 11 run 2nd inning, as Desert grabbed their third IEAC win, knocking off the Victor Valley Rams of Victorville (4-10; 1-2), 28-10.

Desert had their largest scoring inning and their most lopsided score differential since April 2, 2016, when they defeated Cerro Coso in Ridgecrest, 28-5. In the seventh inning of that game, the Roadrunners scored 12 runs.

Freshman third baseman Spencer Dickinson (Rancho Mirage H.S.) was a beast out of the clean-up spot, going 6 for 7, snagging his seventh double of 2022, scoring a season high four times and grabbing a season high five runs batted in (RBI).

Freshman starting catcher Martin Sanchez (Beaumont H.S.) went 3 for 3, crushing his first home run of the 2022 season, a Grand Slam in the second inning, in which he was a part of the 17 Roadrunners who stood in the box for an 11 run outburst. Sanchez snagged a season high six RBI's and scored twice.

Freshman short stop Dillon Baker (Tampa (FL) Carrollwood Day School) went 3 for 4, clobbering his second home run of the season in the fourth, a three-run shot. Baker snagged three RBI's, two walks and a season high six runs scored.

Sophomore second baseman Dalton Thomas (Wenatchee, WA) was a home run short of the cycle, as he grabbed his first extra base hits of the 2022 season, batting out of the lead off spot, going 3 for 3 with two runs scored and two RBI's.

Freshman center fielder Kaelor Fogo (Aurora (CO) Smoky Hill) would sub into center field in the fourth, scoring a couple of runs out of the two hole in the lineup, grabbing a walk and an RBI and freshman left fielder Matt Cruz (Indio H.S.), who also subbed into the outfield in the fourth, went 2 for 3 with two runs scored.

Freshman first baseman Carlos Munoz (Rancho Mirage H.S.) would sub in at first base in the fifth and go 2 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI and freshman right fielder Antonio Crews (Grayslake (IL) Central), who hit out of the nine hole in the lineup, went 2 for 6 with a run scored.

Freshman designated hitter Abraham Hernandez (La Quinta H.S.) went 2 for 3 with three runs scored and two RBI's and freshman catcher Drake Bicknell (Sacramento Jesuit) went 3 for 3 with a run scored and brought home a season high four RBI's.

Freshman right handed starting pitcher Beto Beltran (Indio Shadow Hills) tossed four and a third inning, surrendering eight runs, including a home run, all earned, on six hits, walking three and striking out three.

Freshman right handed relief pitcher Nathan Kelly (Desert Hot Springs H.S.) threw two thirds of an inning giving up two hits and freshman right handed relief pitcher Kody Miyamoto (Honolulu (HI) Maryknoll School), in his first appearance in a Roadrunners uniform, grabbed the win. Tossing one inning, surrendering a pair of runs, both earned, on two hist, walking one and striking out one.

Freshman right handed relief pitcher Cipriano Rivera (Indio H.S.), freshman right handed relief pitcher Johnny Young (Redding Shasta) and freshman right handed relief pitcher Kevin Sanchez (Indio Shadow Hills) all threw an inning of relief, striking out five.

College of the Desert Baseball will be on the road for the next four games, beginning with a game at the Mt. San Jacinto Eagles on March 8th at 2p. The next home game for the Roadrunners will be on Thursday, March 17 at 2:30p, where Desert will continue Inland Empire Athletics Conference (IEAC) play by hosting the Cerro Coso Coyotes of Ridgecrest.
