Comets show no mercy in win over Tigers

SAN MARCOS, CA, (4/12/2022) -- The No. 5 Palomar Comet offense was not shy in Tuesday's matchup against the Riverside City College Tigers as they sailed to a 13-0 run-rule victory.

Palomar has not hit a lot of home runs this season, opting instead to get the job done on balls hit into the gaps, but today shortstop Samarah Martinez and Mackenzie Lefebrve scored big for their first and fifth four-baggers, respectively. Martinez's came in the first following a lead-off single by center fielder Cadee Herrmann to get the Comets on the board. In the fourth, Lefebrve hit a 2-run bomb over the centerfield fence to score the final run for Palomar.

The pitching staff for the Comets has been on fire this season and Tuesday was no exception. Farrah Steffany started the game in the circle and began the game with two strikeouts. Steffany, and the Comet defense behind her, didn't allow a run until the third inning, but the Comets turned the 5-4-3 double play to save the potential shutout. Alyssa Domingo came in the fifth inning for the Comets and had the rare four-strikeout inning. Throwing heat, she sent the first two Tigers back to the dugout. Following a dropped third strike passed ball, Domingo battled back to strike out the final Tiger.

Steffany picked up her 11th win of the season as the Comets move to 26-5 overall. They will face Southwestern College on Wednesday afternoon for a 3 p.m. start time.
