SOFTBALL: SPLITSVILLE FOR FC

The Hornets hosted Santiago Canyon College on Friday afternoon for a doubleheader, and split games with the Hawks winning the first 3-0 and losing the second 4-3.

Earlier in the week on Wednesday, Fullerton defeated SCC in a doubleheader 3-2, 8-4.

GAME ONE

FC only needed three runs to win game one and got them all in the fourth inning. Madison Pevehouse put FC on the board smacking a double to right center scoring Emily Muro and Miranda Rooney. Madison Ferguson dove hard stealing second, and a throwing error sailed high to center by the catcher that allowed Pevehouse to come home.

Hornet pitcher Jessica Lopez (5-0) earned the win going 7 complete innings of shutout ball with 2 hits, 2 walks and 6 K's.

At the dish, Madison Pevehouse led the team with 2 hits, 2 RBI, and a run. Hits were also had by Clarissa Hernandez and Miranda Rooney.

GAME TWO

The Hornets drew first blood in the first inning of game two when Dee Ramirez took advantage of a pickoff attempt throw that sailed deep into the right field corner. She managed to use her speed to cruise home.

The Hawks evened things out in the second inning on Alyssa Yslas' single that bounced down the left line plating Hailey Guillen from second base.

FC went up 2-1 in the third inning when Miranda Rooney grounded out to second giving Ramirez the opportunity to score from third.

SCC took over in the top of the fourth with three runs that hurt the Hornets. Guillen said hello to the fourth hitting a solo homer over the left field fence. Sabrina Rivera knocked one to right center field scoring Jazmyn Moetului, and Adriana Martinez singled to shortstop scoring Priscilla Andrade.

The Hornets did their best to steal back the win Dee Ramirez popped a shot into right field bringing Skye Samano home. The score would still favor Santiago Canyon 4-3 after seven inning as Fullerton did not have enough gas in the tank.

Up Next: Fullerton (9-1 overall) travels to Golden West for another weekly four-game series. It all begins on Wednesday, May 5th at 1:00 pm and 3:30 pm.
