Comets back in first after sweeping IVC

SAN MARCOS, CA (4/15/2022) -- Palomar found themselves back in first place in the PCAC after sweeping Imperial Valley College, 18-0, 12-2, and 25-3 last week. 

In game one of the week, performing the DH duties, Derek Augenstein recorded three doubles to finish 5-6 with two RBI and three runs. In Thursday's game, Augenstein continued to show off his power by hitting a three-run home run in the bottom of the third to make the score 4-1. In game three, centerfielder Ethan Ellis had a triple and a home run to finish the day 2-3 with three RBI and two runs. 

Dylan Delvecchio pitched 6.0 innings and allowed four hits to go along with 10 strikeouts in game one. Delvecchio is now 5-1 overall and is second in the state in strikeouts with 86 on the season. On Thursday, Logan Parker pitched 6.0 innings and allowed two runs on four hits and recorded fours strikeouts to move to 8-1 on the season. 

Palomar maintains the sole possession of first place in PCAC play after Grossmont lost to San Diego City College in 10 innings on Friday. The Comets swept the Griffins earlier this season, but the two teams sharing first place the majority of the conference schedule, the 3-game series scheduled for next week will be a battle. The Comets are now 25-9 overall and 15-4 in conference play. They will host Grossmont on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
