Hawks Win OEC Opener
The Santiago Canyon College Softball Team opened Orange Empire Conference play with a 9-4 win over Golden West College. The Hawks are now 10-1 overall and 1-0 in the OEC. Stella Turner threw the complete game picking up the win for SCC and improves to 6-0 on the year.
After giving up a leadoff homerun to the Rustlers, the Hawks responded with 5 runs in the bottom of the first inning. SCC added another run in the third and looked poised end the game with a run-rule win. The Rustlers however held the Hawks to just one run with one out and bases loaded to extend the game. In the top of the 6th, Golden West pushed three runs across on three hits to come come within 2 runs of the Hawks. SCC matched their 3 with three more of their own in the bottom half of the frame to extend their lead to 9-4 and secure the win.
Alexandra Molina led the Hawks offense going 2-for-3 with a double and 4 RBI's. Jenelle Torrez had a pinch hit double, while Samantha Villanueva, Alyssa Yslas, Priscilla Andrade, and Riley Piattoni each added 2 hits on the day.
The Hawks will continue with Orange Empire Conference action on Wednesday next week. They will travel to Cypress College for a 3pm game.
