SOFTBALL: IT’S BEEN A MINUTE- HORNETS WIN!

After a year-long hiatus due to the COVID-19 shutdown, the FC softball squad was excited to get back on Hornet field on Wednesday afternoon for a doubleheader against Orange Coast College. The Hornets took both games 8-1 and 3-0.

The game began friendly enough as the scored remained 0-0 until the third inning when Fullerton hung 3 runs on the Pirates. Dee Ramirez got it started with a 2-run double to right center field and would eventually come home on a fielding error. FC went on to score a run or more in every inning thereafter.

In the fourth, Natalie Gonzalez grounded to short giving Clarissa Hernandez the chance to score.

OCC's lone run of the day came in the fifth inning on Karagan Varela's single to left field that plated Alia Marquez.

FC went up 5-1 in the bottom of the fifth when Ahahi Agredano grounded out to pitcher giving Ramirez a shot to come home.

Fullerton put the game away in the sixth scoring another 3 runs. Madison Ferguson opened up with a triple to deep center field scoring Hernandez. Ramirez lock down her third hit of the game, a single to center, scoring Ferguson. Madison Pevehouse got to first on a fielding error and Ramirez took advantage scoring the eighth run for Fullerton.

FC pitcher Jessica Lopez put in 7 innings of work to earn her first win of the season. She allowed only 4 hits, 1 run, and had 8 K's on the day.

In the second game of the day, the Hornets managed to keep Orange Coast scoreless, while the Hornets did all of their damage in the third inning scoring all three runs needed for the win. Casey Dufrene knocked one up the middle of the field scoring Maya Osegura. Jocelyn Alcala singled down the right field line bringing pinch runner Jayleena Perez in, and Skye Samano singled through the right-side scoring Anahi Agredano

Once again, Lopez got the start and the win in the circle tossing 4 innings of 3-hit ball with 4 strikeouts and 2 walks. Madison Pevehouse threw 3 innings to earn the save. She only allowed 1 hit, had 2 strikeouts, and walked one.

Up Next: The Hornets (2-0 overall) will play another doubleheader this Friday, April 16^th at Orange Coast College. Games are at noon and 2:30 pm.
