The West Valley volleyball team celebrated the achievements of nine second-year players with a 25-17, 25-14, 25-16 sweep of visiting Gavilan Friday night. A pre-match ceremony honored nine Vikings - Camdyn Albrecht, Kate Blackwell, Elia Duenas, Katie Kishton, Monika Martinez Leon, Belen Morgan, Taylor Tullo, Alina Valenti and Keilli Voss - and a pair of Rams - Margo Clonts and Kiauna Oliver - playing their final regular season match in Saratoga.

Perhaps feeling the excitement from the celebration, the Vikings found themselves down 15-10 in the opening set after Gavilan reeled off five straight points. WVC coach Armen Zakarian called one of the most productive timeouts of the season as the Vikings rallied behind a trio of Tullo aces to take back the lead at 16-15. Kishton closed out the set by serving up seven straight points for the 25-17 win.

WVC (18-4, 11-1 Coast) grabbed big leads in the second and third sets, trailing only once at 1-0 in the second, for the straight set win. Zakarian spread playing out time throughtout his roster the entire evening, resulting in a deep stat sheet. Kishton had a team-high nine kills, followed by Tullo with six and another six from Martinez Leon that included the kill of the year in the third set. Alina Valenti served up seven aces and state assist leader Sydney Rogers handed out a match-high 28 helpers.

WVC wraps up the regular season Nov. 16 at crosstown rival De Anza (11-11, 6-6). First serve is 4:00pm.
