There are no words that better describe the 2023 West Valley tennis team than "line depth". That description was on full display Friday as the Vikings, currently ranked as the north's #2 squad, rallied past south #2 College of the Desert 5-4 in Palm Desert. The win, one of WVC's biggest under coach Lauren Hickey in her four years in Saratoga, kept the Vikings undefeated against community college competition at 7-0.

The Vikings found themselves down 4-3 to the Roadrunners as WVC's Lindsay Lee and Lavanika Sharma were competing in their singles matches. Lee won her singles-three match to knot it up at 4-4 and, moments later, Sharma clinched with a hard-fought win in her singles-five match. Sharma was joined by Tal Volinsky as two-match winners on the day, while Lee, Brynn McKenzie and Abigail Prokter each took one match.

The Vikings (7-1, 6-0 Coast) return to Coast Conference competition, weather permitting, this week with home matches against Monterey Peninsula (2-4, 1-3) Tuesday (3/13) and Cabrillo (1-4, 1-2) Thursday (3/16). Both matches start at 2:00pm.
