Softball: Too Many Mistakes Cost Rustlers; Offense Stifled

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Golden West College fell by way of mercy, 8-0, by Cypress College through six innings at home on Wednesday. The Rustlers are now 0-2 against Cypress and 2-8 in conference play.

The Chargers took a 1-0 lead over the Rustlers in the top of the second off a sacrifice fly to left field.

Emily Rush was dominant in the circle for Cypress, holding the Rustlers to a two-hit ballgame.

Center fielder Shelby Jacobsz put the first ball into play for the Rustlers in the bottom of the inning but got left stranded after a pop up and ground ball ended the inning.

Catcher Cat Lussier accounted for the second and final hit of the game for the Rustlers in the third inning with one out on the board.

The Rustlers not only struggled to move runners, but each infielder made a defensive error that cost them opportunities to avoid a mercy ruling.

Sennie Viramontes made her 13th start of the season, going four innings before Aolani Sua entered in relief in the fifth inning.

Through four, Viramontes was charged with four hits, five runs (four earned), three walks and one strikeout. Viramontes earned her sixth loss of the season and sits 5-6.

The Titans hit the road Tuesday for a rescheduled game against Santiago Canyon at 2:30 p.m.
