Baseball Falters in the Ninth Inning to Orange Coast

The Long Beach City College baseball team fell to the Orange Coast College Pirates 13-9 on Thursday afternoon at the Vikings Baseball Field.

Freshman pitcher Tyler Bermundo (0-1) took the loss on the hill with allowing the Pirates to two earned runs to tie the score in the top of the ninth.

The Pirates were first to score in the top of the second, as they hit a two RBI single. The the Vikings bounced back in the bottom of the second, with a sacrifice fly from freshman catcher Malik Clayton and a two RBI single from freshman shortstop Evan Vazquez to take the lead 3-2.

The Vikings kept the offensive moment rolling with freshman designated hitter Moises Guzman hammering back-to-back home runs for a total of five RBIs and extended the Vikings all the way to 8-2.

The Pirates answered with a two RBI home run in the top of the seventh and in the bottom of the eighth, Guzman was back with an RBI single to score in freshman left fielder Raul Garcia to bring the Vikings up to 9-4.

The Pirates rallied in the ninth inning with nine runs to topple over the Vikings 13-9.

The Long Beach City College Vikings will return to action on Feb. 22 at El Camino College at 2p.m.
