The MSJC football team fell behind 8-0 on Saturday, and then scored 51 straight points on their way to a 58-21 non-conference win over visiting LA Southwest.

The Eagles were aggressive from the opening kick off as they attempted an on-side kick to open the game, but the Cougars were able to recover the ball and set themselves up in good field position.  A nine play 45 yard drive ensued that resulted in an LASW touchdown and it looked like the Eagles may have their hands full on the hot afternoon.  MSJC quickly struck back however on the very next play from scrimmage when Brett Virgil connected with running back Sherod White on a 30 yard touchdown pass, which was made possible by a 66 yard kick return by Alonzo Bell.  After a two point conversion by each team the game was tied at 8-8.  From that point on the Eagles dominated the contest.  Later in the first quarter Virgil ran in a TD from 7 yards out to cap off 7 play 62 yard drive, and at the end of the first period MSJC led 15-8.

In the second quarter Javier Luna and C.J. Sullivan both caught touchdown passes from Virgil and the Eagles ballooned the halftime lead to 30-8.  The onslaught continued on the first play from scrimmage of the second half when Virgil hit Luna for a 64 yard TD pass to extend the lead even further to 37-8.  Two more touchdowns would follow in the third as Virgil and White each scored again on the ground, with a 1 yard run from Virgil and a 5 yard scamper by White.  Caleb Massawe would score the Eagles final touchdown of the day in the fourth period.  LASW was able to push the ball across the goal line twice in the final 3:20 of the game, including big 51 yard run on the final play of the game.

For the day the Eagles out gained the Cougars 478-241, and really controlled the ground game out rushing their opponents 224-71.  Virgil finished the game 7 of 17 passing for 174 yards and 4 TDs, he has thrown for 9 touchdowns through the Eagles first two games. White led a balanced rushing attack with 11 carries for 87 yards, Virgil added 68 yards on the ground and Doryan Cole ran it 10 times for 41 yards.  Cole also had a team high 3 receptions.

The defense was led by Steven Bradshaw who had 10 tackles, including 7 solo and 4.5 for loss.  Dallas Frederick added 5 tackles and Kervin Jones had a sack.  Darryl Moody came up with MSJC's first interception of the season.

The Eagles now 2-0 on the year will make their first road trip of the season on Saturday when they travel to El Cajon to take on Grossmont College.  The game on September 21st at Grossmont is set to kick off at 3 pm.
